UKAEE is seeking a volunteer to support the administration of the AEE ESOS Lead Assessor Register. This is a practical, meaningful role within the chapter — ideal for someone looking to build their knowledge of ESOS, develop professional skills, and contribute to the energy management community.
Full support and handover will be provided by the UKAEE Board.
Processing new Lead Assessor applications — checking eligibility, qualifications, and documentation
Maintaining the LA Register — keeping records accurate and up to date
Managing the annual renewal cycle — issuing reminders, reviewing CPD and compliance confirmations
Communicating with Lead Assessors regarding their status, outstanding items, or queries
Coordinating with the UKAEE Board on any register changes or compliance matters
Supporting UKAEE's obligations as an EA-approved ESOS Approval Body
The role is flexible and manageable alongside full-time employment. Activity is cyclical, with busier periods around application deadlines and the annual renewal window (November–January).
Build your ESOS knowledge
You'll develop a detailed, practical understanding of ESOS - how the scheme works, what qualifies a Lead Assessor, and how the approval body framework operates. This is specialist knowledge that's hard to gain from the outside.
Develop transferable skills
Gain hands-on experience in regulatory compliance, data management, and professional administration - skills valued across energy management, consultancy, and related fields.
Expand your professional network
You'll work directly with qualified ESOS Lead Assessors across the UK and with the UKAEE Board - a ready-made professional network in the energy sector.
Recognised contribution
Volunteer roles with a professional body carry real weight on a CV. This is a credible, sector-relevant commitment that demonstrates initiative and professional engagement.
You won't be doing it alone
The UKAEE Board provides full support - including a comprehensive handover, access to all templates and documentation, and ongoing guidance. You don't need to be an ESOS expert to start.
There is no single profile for this role. You might be:
Early in your energy management career and looking to build sector knowledge
An existing UKAEE member wanting to contribute to the chapter
An energy professional with an interest in compliance or regulatory processes
A methodical approach, good attention to detail, and willingness to communicate clearly with applicants and Board members are the main requirements.
Contact the UKAEE Board at team@ukaee.org to express your interest or find out more. We're happy to have an informal conversation before any commitment is made.
